About the campaign

Resist Restructuring Manchester first began as a Facebook page, inspired by a similar campaign at the University of Nottingham and intended to spread awareness and information to students following the university’s announcement of plans to cut 171 academic and support staff positions. This was followed by the creation of a Twitter account, and a petition to university president Dame Nancy Rothwell which has now amassed over 4,500 signatures and counting.

The students behind this wing of the campaign are all languages students on our years abroad, and are doing everything we can to support our highly valued teaching staff and encourage the university to reconsider the cuts whilst we are away from Manchester. Therefore we urge all students who are still on campus in Manchester to get involved with all and any actions and events taking place on the ground – we will be sharing information of any meetings and demonstrations organised by the student’s union or other campaigns, and any other ways that you can get involved.
